So What is Hypnosis?
and what is the difference between hypnosis & self-hypnosis?
So What is Hypnosis?
Science is getting closer to explaining what hypnosis is and how it works. What they do agree on is that hypnosis is a natural state of the human mind/brain and that we all go in and out of daily. Have you ever been so engrosed in a book, movie ot activity that you have lost track of time, or not anyone calling you? That is the hypnotic state.
The Oxford dictionary definition of hypnosis is: " an artificially induced state of relaxation and concentration in which deeper parts of the mind become more accessible". There are some research papers coming out that are saying that hypnosis is similar to the REM state of sleep. Other research talks about the brain goin into the Alpha brainwave state. Either way, when you are in a hypnotised state, your concentration & focus narrows, you ar relaxed
What is Self-Hypnosis?
The definition of self-hypnosis is: " the state of hypnotizing oneself". It turns out that all hypnosis is really self-hypnosis.
Yes you read that correctly. All hypnosis is self hypnosis.
A hypnotist or hypnotherapist guides you into the state of self-hypnosis.
It is in the state of hypnosis that you are able to begin to reprogram your mind with more beneficial programs and beliefs, ones that support you and help bring about and sustain the change you desire.
What's all the hype about?
Because hypnosis works directly on the subconscious, it is able to make deep and lasting change in our lives. Hypnosis by-passes the critical function of the mind and work directly with our subconscious. When we choose the right script for us, we can embed the new thoughts, behaviours and habits within the subconscious mind using self-hypnosis.
Is hypnosis safe? As I have mentioned above, the hypnotic state is a natural state that you can drop in and out of with ease. You are in control the entire time you are in hypnosis. You can choose to come out of the hypnotic state at any time.
